Dear Chairman Okeson & Members of the Indiana Election Commission:
In light of this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, we urge you to lessen the restrictions on Hoosiers who wish to vote by mail. During this time of health crisis, we ask that absentee ballot rules be amended by taking the following steps:
Allow absentee ballots to be accepted up to six (6) days after the election if postmarked by Election Day so that everyone who has a ballot can safely vote by mail on or before Election Day;
Allow drive-by drop off sites through the close of business on Election Day so voters who received their absentee ballots may safely cast them amid social-distancing;
Provide resources to counties so that they can send ALL registered voters an absentee application by mail, with a stamped return envelope (rather than requiring all voters to seek out the absentee ballot application); and
Eliminate the uncertainty surrounding November’s election by extending the “no-excuse” absentee voting to all Hoosiers through the 2020 general election among these other measures.
